Nature and Bird Conservation, avifaunistics, waterbird ecology
Head: Dr. Hans-Günther Bauer
The topic of nature and bird conservation and the collaboration with volunteer ornithologists has always been one of the strongholds in the
work of the Vogelwarte. There are more than 100 bird observers registered in the region of Lake Constance alone, which report their
observations or project data on the occurrence, abundance and phenology of birds in the course of the year, and on threats and
conservation issues or other ornithological questions. Many hundred more ornithologists in the Federal States and nationally also
collaborate with our group. Our working group provides the conceptual framework, collates, analyses and publishes these data and
results, and utilises the findings to bring forward the conservation of indigenous bird populations and general biodiversity.
